A Little About The Author
Some places possess the ability to speak, to convey stories woven into their very fabric. A house embodies this essence, mirroring the lives lived within its walls. Built board by board, stone by stone, and room by room, it accumulates memories and personalities, becoming a testament to the passage of time. Among such places is Sweet Grass Memories, a historic, restored mansion in North Texas, often cited as a prime example of a house with a story to tell.
Jan Morgan is the author of the Sweet Grass series, and after stumbling upon an abandoned plantation home near Atlanta, decided to unite what she envisioned as its tenacious spirit with a lively, rag-rag group of kids who were determined to make a difference in their world. Using various examples of social injustice as a consistent theme, the house and kids work together to right the wrongs of society. The kids, coincidentally, are “real” living, breathing entities. The House, however, is another matter altogether.
Jan is a retired public school administrator living in Texas with her husband, Randy, and two opinionated Scottish terriers, Oscar Clyde and Molly McGee.

Early on, mesmerized by Sweet Grass Memories, my first struggle was to not be irresponsible and stay up all night reading! Though very tempted, I was able to await daylight for the conclusion. Now I await the sequel!

WOW! I am a lover of books and this one did not disappoint. I could have read this book in, at most, three days, however I loved it so much that I didn’t want to devour it. I wanted to enjoy every morsel of it...you know like your favorite treat, one that you don’t indulge in very often.

I loved Sweet Grass Memories and have been looking forward to this release. Sweet Grass Memories was a kind story with lovable characters and the unique local color of Charleston, SC. I recommend this author if you need a book that just makes you feel better about the world and recognize the kind people and hearts that are in it!

While this novel is fiction, it wrestles with our country’s immigration process. As the high school students seek to improve their own lives, they find themselves impacting their community and envisioning how they can change the world. The novel reveals several stories of what our 21st Century immigrants, especially those of “illegal” status, must endure and overcome. As with Sweet Grass Memories, it challenges all of us to do better. (Note, I highly recommend reading Sweet Grass Memories too, Blades of Grass in the Desert stands alone.) Perfect blend of fiction in a non-fiction world.

I enjoyed reading Our Turn Pluff Mud & Injustice. The book tells an interesting story about injustice and how people can work together to stand up for what is right. The characters face difficult challenges, but they show courage, determination, and hope.
One of my favorite parts of the book was how the author showed the importance of fairness, community, and never giving up. The story kept my attention, and I wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next. The writing was engaging, and the characters felt realistic.

Excellent book about injustices toward the Gullah African-Americans living on the ocean front islands near Charleston, South Carolina. This novel was inspired by a north Texas youth-centered educational non-profit with ties the Gullahs. The book is an easy read with descriptive dialogue and geographic locations. The characters are real-life and contemporary. Great story line. Excellent prose. Each of the 60 short-read chapters is introduced by a thematic quote from a famous person which sets the stage for that chapter. Well done!
